Chesterfield Sofas – FAQ

Looking for a Chesterfield sofa or chair? Got a question or two prior to order, or are you just looking for some advice about style, size and comfort? We’ve compiled a Chesterfield sofa FAQ blog post, which will hopefully answer all your questions.

How comfy is a Chesterfield?

Comfort is, of course, something which is very personal; some like a sofa to be firm, while others prefer a couch or chair they can really sink into. We offer a variety of sofa cushion fillings to ensure you can enjoy the level of comfort you prefer.

Our fibre filling comes as standard with your Chesterfield, and it’s a soft cushion which many people find extremely comfortable. However, there are a number of options available to you at an additional charge.

Our foam cushions, for example, are slightly firmer than fibre, still as comfortable but hold their shape a little better.

Feather and foam is another option many of our customers opt for; this type of cushion filling provides a comfortable feel while retaining its shape, too. The feather and foam consists of a foam insert, which is surrounded by feathers, to allow you to sink into the sofa with ease.

There’s also our buttoned-seat sofas, with are fully-sprung with a foam filling, and our winged-armed sofas (such as the Drummond and Blenheim) allow you to lean into the arms easily.

Want to discuss your options further? Simply give us a call anytime and we’ll help guide you through the different fillings available.

What is the difference between the leathers?

Each leather has its own distinctive characteristics, and you can find out more by heading to our products page, selecting your preferred sofa, chair or footstool from our extensive range and scrolling down the page. Here you’ll see all our colour swatches in digital format, along with an explanation of the individual leathers we offer.

Some of our leathers, for example, offer an antiqued finish to give the appearance of an aged sofa – something many Chesterfield fans particularly look for in a sofa of this style.

What is your favourite sofa?

It’s hard to pick a favourite – of course, we’re biased and love all our models – but the most popular styles with our customers include the traditional-looking Hampton, along with the Drummond, and the Goodwood.

Can we change dimensions?

Of course! We can make an entirely bespoke sofa for you, down to the dimensions and the fabric. We upholster our sofas and chairs in leather, but if you’ve seen a fabric you love you’re welcome to supply it to us and we’ll do the rest. Similarly, dimensions can be altered to complement the size of your room, but do be aware this could ensure that our four-week lead time for manufacture is stretched to six to eight weeks. Please note: If you are looking for a made to measure sofa, you will be required to measure up your room/home yourself – this is not a service we offer ourselves.

What’s the lead time on my sofa?

In most cases, our workshop team takes just four weeks to manufacture your sofa, but please allow another seven to 10 working days thereafter for delivery if you’re in the UK. Our delivery window is slightly different if you’re ordering from aboard. For instance, allow 10 to 14 days for delivery if you’re ordering from Europe, and up to 30 days if you’re based in the USA.

If you’ve ordered a bespoke piece, whereby you’ve altered the dimensions of your sofa or you’re supplying your own fabric, manufacture could take up to eight weeks to allow for this.

What are the differences in types of leather?

You can find out more about the distinctive characteristics of our range of leather by heading to our products page, selecting your preferred sofa, chair or footstool and scrolling down the page. Here you’ll see all our colour swatches in digital format, along with some details about the individual leathers we offer.

Will it fit in my house?

Generally, yes! But do ensure you take measurements well ahead of purchase. If the piece you have your eye on is too big, however, please do not hesitate to get in touch as we can alter the dimensions to suit yourself and your house.

Is there a showroom near me?

We have one showroom and it’s based in the picturesque village of Honley in Holmfirth, Huddersfield (West Yorkshire). We’re open from 9am to 5pm Monday to Friday (including some Saturdays) and appointments can be booked here.

Do you have any items in stock to buy?

We do indeed, and you’ll find them in the clearance page  here on our website. You can also view specific items in our showroom – please call ahead in advance of your visit and we’ll let you know if we have your preferred model here in Honley. However, aside from the pieces in our clearance section, all our sofas and chairs are made from scratch and by hand, and therefore we don’t hold too much stock here in Honley ready for our customers to purchase. As ever, though, please get in touch and we’ll see what we can do.
