Ultimate Reader’s Prize: And the Winner is…

02nd May 2014

That’s it, the results are in! We received a ton of entries for our Ultimate Reader’s Prize competition, which offered a gorgeous Distinctive Chesterfields red leather wing back chair, £100 book vouchers and more for the lucky winner. All our entrants needed to do was share a review of their favourite novel over on their own blog and send it to us here in the office. We were inundated with entries, each carefully-written blog post telling all about a much-loved book or, in some cases, books.

We received blog posts which featured great kids’ books, and others which championed a favourite series of novels. We were hugely impressed by the effort each and every one of you went to to let us in on the books that made your ‘must-read’ list, and we’ve even added some of them to our own wish lists for future purchase.

But we’re afraid there could only be one overall winner, though it was extremely difficult to pick. In the end, we whittled the entries down to our favourite six, before asking a colleague to select the winner from a hat.

And here’s that very winning entry – a thorough review of The Great Gatsby, by blogger Lauren over at the site Reading By Candlelight. We particularly loved how Lauren didn’t all-out praise the book, instead saying she found it quite a difficult read at times. Because after all, some of the really great reads often require a bit of perseverance.

Fitzgerald’s The Great Gatsby was the inspiration behind the winning competition entry

Lauren’s studying this book as part of her English Literature course, and has found it a trying read at times. Either way, her review certainly makes you want to pick up the novel and give it a go, as did all the reviews submitted in our competition.

On hearing she’d won not just the wing back chair, but £100 of book vouchers, and other goodies, Lauren was thrilled, and we’ll be delivering her prize to her home down south very soon.

Plus, as it was such a difficult decision selecting the overall winner, we just had to pick out a couple of other favourites to scoop runner up prizes of a £50 book voucher. After much deliberation, we went for this post by Danielle at Finding Silver Pennies and this one about the book ‘Incompetence’.

A big thank you to each and every one of you who entered our competition, we loved reading your entries – do keep your eyes peeled for more fun competitions like this!
