Maximise Your Living Room with These Top Tips

If a lack of space in your home – specifically your living room – gets you down, first ask yourself the following simple question.

“Am I really making the most of the space?”

While many think they’re using up all the room available to them, when it comes down to it, few people actually are. So, to help you on your way to a more orderly living area – and a more relaxed you – follow Distinctive Chesterfields’ top tips:

Get Rid of Clutter

If you’ve been keeping an eye on our social media pages lately, you may have noticed we sought the help of professional organiser, Cory Cook to give us some top tips on overhauling our home. Cory always recommends people start by de-cluttering their home before they move on to reorganising it.

The first step to making the most of your living space is almost always to keep it tidy and reduce clutter. So, where to start? Cory suggests you should ‘start with what you see’. When decluttering, Cory recommends starting with the floors, before moving onto the surfaces and eventually leading onto cupboards, drawers or things like magazine racks.

“You’ll experience more satisfaction – and enjoy the results of your efforts much sooner – by starting with what you see”, says Cory.

Start today and see if you can feel lots better by the end of it!

And then There Was Light!

Let as much light into your living room as you can – you might not believe it but it’ll make such a difference to how spacious the area looks. If yours is a room which doesn’t get much in the way of natural light, fake it with some well-chosen standard lamps or beautiful candles.

Consider Better Storage Solutions

If you’re not storing things correctly – and this applies to any room in the house – your home will quickly look cluttered and untidy. Instead, choose your storage well and it’ll serve a purpose as well as look great, too.

Look for anything from beautiful wicker baskets to wire storage for magazines – and even Kilner jars for small trinkets.

What About Furniture?

Of course, we couldn’t sign off this article without mentioning the role your furniture plays in the space you have left in your room. The fact is, the pieces you select can make a big difference when it comes to making the most of the space you have availability.

If space is of a premium, try to make the most of the height of a room with tall cabinets and plenty of shelves. There are all sorts of clever ways you can maximise the space; simply by putting a little bit of thought into the layout of your room will help you make better decisions when you buy furniture.
