Spring Decor Trend: Gingham Print

13th April 2014

Ruby slipper-wearing Judy Garland ensured gingham print enjoyed a style moment when she sported that blue and white checked dress in childhood favourite The Wizard of Oz. But thankfully, the twee blue and white print – and its multi-coloured counterparts – have remained in hearts, homes and wardrobes ever since, popping up in spring and sticking around throughout long, hot summers and beyond.

But it’s not just fashion that gingham seems to dominate each and every spring. Enjoy a greasy fry up in an equally ‘greasy spoon’ cafe and you’ll probably spy more than one tea-stained table cloth featuring the famous summery print. And it can be seen elsewhere, too – from school girls’ summer dresses, to the home section of most big department stores – on duvet covers, pillow cases, door stops, and napkins. With this in mind, we’ve picked some of our favourite images from Pinterest which show off just how versatile gingham can be…

We love how gingham has been used to spruce up this gorgeous cottage, above. It really sets off the rustic windows, and the bright pink flowers add a lovely pop of colour to the home.

And how stunning is this dresser, adorned with simple white plates propped up against a lime green and white gingham backdrop? The wicker baskets, seen in the bottom of the dresser, also create an ideal space for all those bits and bats you’d usually shove in the kitchen drawer.

Although just a flash of gingham printed fabric has been added to this kitchen (below), we think it really ties the whole room together. We also love the navy blue pendant lights, and the mix of rustic-looking wicker baskets, and the bold, monochrome flooring. Are you a fan too?

There’s few things prettier in the home than a gorgeous gingham table cloth; so simple yet so elegant. Country chic, we like to call it. This one (above) looks beautiful, doesn’t it? And complemented by the white tableware it offers a simple, yet relaxed display.

In a move away from traditional pale blue and white gingham, this purple and white combo (seen on this bedding, above) makes a refreshing change. It’d look so pretty in a guest room, especially against a bedside cabinet or two featuring cheery bunches of daffodils.
